Learn more about the CHEAPR program in Connecticut

The Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) offers incentives of up to $5,000 for Connecticut residents who purchase or lease a new eligible battery electric, plug-in hybrid electric or fuel cell electric vehicle. There are currently over 30  eligible vehicles  available and the list continues to grow as manufacturers release new models.

In 2015, CARA assisted the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection in creating the CHEAPR Program for the rebate of purchasing or leasing an eligible battery electric, plug-in hybrid electric or fuel cell electric vehicle.

CHEAPR has been a very successful program over the years because it is modeled on the time proven franchise system that is designed to sell vehicles at the local level with incentives to quickly move vehicles from the dealer’s lot on to the highways and by way of our state.

As of September 30, there have been almost 6,300 rebates to Connecticut consumers.
